You've got the perfect event idea. The guest list is set. The only thing standing between you and a Bomb Bays Golf simulator setup is one nagging question:

"Will it actually fit?"

It's the number one logistical concern we hear before bookings, and the answer is almost always yes. Here's exactly what you need to know so you can stop guessing and start planning.

The Minimum Space Requirements

A mobile golf simulator setup needs three dimensions to work safely and comfortably. Here's the baseline:

  • Width: 12 feet minimum. This gives your guests enough room to swing freely without worrying about catching a wall or a fence post.
  • Depth: 15 feet minimum from the hitting position to the screen. This ensures accurate ball tracking and a safe, comfortable distance.
  • Ceiling Height: 9 feet minimum for most players. Taller golfers with a steep swing arc may want a little more clearance, and 10 feet is ideal.

The short version: A space roughly 12' wide x 15' deep x 9' tall works for most setups. If your backyard, garage, or venue clears those numbers, you're in great shape.

Common Spaces That Work Great
Backyard Patios and Covered Outdoor Spaces

A covered patio with at least 12 feet of open width is one of the best spots for a simulator setup. The shade keeps things comfortable, and the open-air feel adds to the social vibe. No cover? A tent or canopy works too, just needs to clear 9 feet.

Garages

A standard two-car garage (typically 18–20 feet wide and 20 feet deep) is nearly ideal. Open the door, move the car out, and you've got a dedicated simulator bay. We set up in garages regularly and they're one of our favorite spaces.

Office Lobbies and Atriums

Corporate events in office buildings work well when there's an open lobby, atrium, or large conference room. Ceiling heights in commercial spaces are usually generous. If you can get 15 feet of open floor depth and a high enough ceiling, we're good to go.

Hotel Ballrooms and Event Venues

Purpose-built event spaces almost always have the square footage and ceiling clearance we need. If you're working with a venue coordinator, just share our space specs with them and most venues have seen simulator setups before.

Tented or Indoor Festival Spaces

Large events with tent coverage or indoor warehouse-style spaces work great for multi-bay setups. If you're thinking big, multiple simulators, a leaderboard, a competition format, we can talk through what that looks like.

What If You're Not Sure About Your Space?

Don't guess. Send us a photo and a rough measurement, and we'll tell you within hours whether it works. We've seen a lot of spaces, and we're good at spotting what will and won't fly.

A few things that can make a borderline space work:

  • Moving furniture or outdoor gear to open up depth
  • Using a covered side yard instead of a small patio
  • Choosing a compact net-based setup for tighter spaces
  • Shifting the hitting position angle slightly to gain clearance

When in doubt: measure your width, depth, and ceiling height and text or email them to us. We'll confirm viability same-day so you can keep planning with confidence.

What About Outdoor Setups Without a Cover?

We can set up in open outdoor spaces under the right conditions, but there are factors we'll want to discuss, primarily weather protection for the equipment and screen visibility in direct sunlight. Most outdoor events benefit from at least partial shade or a tent cover.

San Antonio's weather is mostly on our side. But for summer afternoon events, a shaded setup isn't just preferred. It makes the experience significantly better for your guests too.

Power Requirements

Our setups require a standard 110V outlet within reach of the setup area. A single household extension cord usually handles it. No generators, no special wiring, no electrical upgrades needed. If your outdoor space doesn't have a nearby outlet, let us know in advance and we can plan around it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the simulator be set up on grass?

Yes. We use a hitting mat as the playing surface, so the ground beneath it doesn't need to be perfectly level. Grass, concrete, pavers, and hardwood floors all work fine.

What if my ceiling is only 8 feet?

Eight feet can work for shorter players using shorter clubs. For full driver swings with a full-height backswing, we recommend at least 9 feet. Tell us about the space and we'll give you an honest assessment.

Do you need a wall to project onto?

No. We bring our own impact screen and projection setup. We just need the space dimensions and access to power.

How long does setup take?

Most setups take 45–60 minutes. We arrive ahead of your event start time so everything is ready when your guests show up.
